How It All Started

It was 2009, and I was listening to the final episode of a podcast series from Colleen Patrick-Goudreau's Food for Thought podcast and learning how animals raised for food were treated.

I knew instantly that I did not want to contribute to that violence.

But what I didn't know was what I was going to eat the next day.

I was hungry for a few weeks because I didn't know how to put together a filling meal. It took some time for me to figure that out.

A few months later, I got invited to a social event, and I declined. Not because I didn't want to see my friends, but because I had no idea what I would eat.

I didn't want to feel awkward, and more importantly, I didn't want to be hungry.

Luckily, my compassion for the animals kept me from giving up, but it was not easy. I struggled... a lot.

I learned a lot through trial and error.

It took years before I was finally on autopilot and realized it was finally easy.

I asked myself, "What have I learned, and what do I instinctively do that makes it so easy?"

I wondered, "What if I could compile this information to help others reach 'easy' faster than I did?"

That's when this workbook was born.
